Interesting facts about the 107 model series

R107
SL 1971 – 1989
Mercedes-Benz vehicles with the prestigious abbreviation SL / SLC always sold quite well until production ceased on August 4, 1989. This is also proven by the total 18-year production period for both models. The SL was built from 1971 – 1989, and the SLC from 1972 to 1981.
Back to the type designation SL / SLC used. “S” stands for SUPER and “L” for LIGHT, which was probably still true for the legendary 300 SL. For the R / C 107, it should actually be: “S” for HEAVY and “L” for LUXURIOUS, “C” for COUPE.
The R107 (Roadster) became the successor to the 280 SL of the W 113 series, also known as the “Pagoda” due to its characteristic roof (hardtop), which is inwardly curved (concave). A short time later, the longer SL – Coupé joined the short SL. This model became the successor to the W 111 Coupé, which had been built since 1961.

Content
The SLC looks very similar to the SL. For the coupe, the front section up to the bulkhead was identical to the SL, but it differs from the windshield onwards. In contrast to the SL, the coupe has a longer wheelbase and a longer body, consequently creating two additional seats.

The Club
was founded in March 1990 and today has more than 5600 members. In addition to a centrally organized structure, there are currently 54 “Regional Meetings” (RT’s) in Germany and one RT in Hungary. These RT’s are the “nuclei” of the club, where the actual club life takes place. In addition to the regular – mostly monthly – meetings (where guests are also welcome to “get a taste”), outings, holiday trips, wrenching sessions, etc., are organized depending on the interests of the members.
We want to…
provide practical assistance to interested parties who want to acquire a 107. For this purpose, our club has published the widely praised brochure “Buying Guide”, which can be found in the Club Shop.
We organize
our “Annual Meeting” and “Autumn Meeting” annually, each in an attractive German city, and in addition to outings and other activities in the Regional Meetings, you can find us at all well-known classic car fairs.
But practical technical training courses to get to know the car and improved purchasing conditions for parts and accessories are also part of our program.
For all technically interested members, we have compiled our unique technical lexicon on 600 pages!
We show on Social Media
many beautiful and interesting pictures and impressions of our 107 model series – Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and TikTok….
We are
a sponsoring member of the Initiative Kulturgut Mobilität e.V. (IKM) and e-Fuel Alliance, as well as a Corporate Club of ADAC
